Googling I have not been able to find any info on similar problems. I'm a networking guy, so I'm not really familiar with vmware, but I have been trying to look into the problem. If promiscuous mode for the portgroup is set to reject instead, wireshark will work fine (but I wont see any relevant traffic). As soon as I stop wireshark networking starts to works again. When I start wireshark on the windows host the network connection for that host dies completely. They are connected to a portgroup that has promiscuous mode set to Accept. So I booted up a windows host on the same vlan and installed wireshark to look at the traffic. It's supposed to get a DHCP address, and the DHCP server shows an allocation for it, but it never get the address. I had I problem with a VM not connecting to the network.
